What is a Doula?

Think of a doula as a personal trainer for birth. As a personal trainer helps you attain fitness goals, a doula helps you achieve your birth goals. A doula provides continuous physical and emotional support for women and their partners before, during and after labor. They provide information, reassurance, and suggest comfort measures.

Doulas work with a variety of birth plans, from natural and unmedicated, to elective cesarean sections and everything in between.

Studies have shown that women who have doula support tend to have shorter labors, less interventions, decreased rates of forceps delivery and cesarean section, higher newborn Apgar scores, decreased rates of postpartum  depression, and fewer breastfeeding issues. Doulas are a valuable, evidence-based member of the birth care team!

"If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it" — Dr. John H. Kennell

Meet the doula

I'm Robin and I am a doula and midwifery student serving Alpharetta, Cumming, John's Creek, and surrounding communities. My goal is to provide holistic support through pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period.

Birth is a rite of passage and there is no one "right" way to do it! Women deserve to know their options, have enough information to make these important decisions, and to receive unwavering support for their choices. My mission is that every woman feel loved, supported, and respected during their birth experience.

I was trained through DONA International, the world's first and largest doula certifying organization. I feel honored and privileged to be a part of women's most vulnerable seasons and most special days of their lives.

I have been married for 11 years and have 3 children. I have experience in various birth settings--hospital, birth center, and home birth. I have attended and assisted natural, unmedicated births, inductions, elective cesareans, VBACs, water birth, and high risk pregnancies. Helping mamas is my passion!
